What is "Letter of Acquirement’
Can you please tell me what is "Letter of Acquirement’'
My company is Acquired too, the New Employer just gave me a Letter Copy
explaining the Merger, NO Official docs were shared with me.
From whom did u get this letter.
No need of new H1 if company 'B's' HR has agreed to continue with 'A''s employees.
1. Get a EVL letter from company 'B'. (This is assuming name of 'A' will change to 'B' or new name.
2. You need to get a "Letter of Acquirement" from HR of new company (I am assuming that the name of the company is changing as well). If name does not change then you should be fine. If you have to travel out of US, you need to carry latest copy of EVL(of new company) and "Letter of Acquirement" along with you. (I went thru these few years back, PwCC bought over by IBM, immediately after the takeover I travelled out of US and came back without any problems(on H1)) this was quite a while back though, you may want to check with your company attorney though.
Note:

I went through the same ordeal about a year and a half ago. After unsuccessful attempts to buy it on my own through internet companies, I went to a good agent who got me a 20 year term life policy with a AAA rated company for about $220/year for a 500,000 coverage. Basically, I got the same rate an US citizen would get. I would advise you to go through an agent, they can do multiple quote and many are knowledgeable about H1 visas and the best thing is you don't pay any thing extra because the agents get their commission from the insurance companies. I would say don't put too much emphasis on these kind of stories, if the CIR bill is not going to be worked on then why did the senator schedule this meeting ? just for fun ?!

I am not optimistic that something will come out real soon, but at the same time, I think something will definitely happen, at least the piece meal approach

It is your employer how have to support your H1B renewal inform him before itself.
If EAD is expired you will not be able to work until you get extension but since you are working for the same employer and if your H1 gets extension approval then I think you can switch from EAD to H1B even after EAD gets expires.

Thanks for the quick reply, Krishna. I would infact get paid in INR in an Indian account. But what do we do when we file our taxes? When my husband files as "married filed jointly", do we declare this income? Do you have any inputs on that.
Income earned in India has nothing to do with US taxes.
Even if you file as "married filed jointly", there is no requirement to have it declared.
You will pay US taxes only when the income is earned in US.
You would rather file taxes in India for the INR income.

What is the Alien Registration number from I140 approval ? How do we get it if we don't have the copy of I-140 approval?
Any more thoughts on this issue. I am making a list of documents in three categories: (i) docs/info needed absolutely (ii) docs that are not must but might help (iii) docs that are not needed at all. Please edit this list based on your research (if you can add links/cite docs to support that would be great).
With long delays many people will be using AC21 and we might see these question repeatedly - a sticky thread can really help.
(i) Documents or information that is essential (if you don't have these documents or info don't even think about changing jobs and just stay put at old employer)

The only question i have is, my employer though a bank, is not willing to give me a copy of my I140 WHATSOEVER. I tried numerous times and they only say that the attorney (FRAGOMEN) has advised not to give the copy of I140 to the beneficiary. With the banks you know..they may be around or shut any time.
Can you please advise, COPY OF I140 IS REQUIRED, for porting the priority date to new employer?

Yes, You should be able to find out a contact number and call them in advance with you appointment details handy and ask if your details in PIMS are uptodate with your current H1 extensions and stuff. This call would be free in india, but if you have appointment in CANADA, they do charge some money for that call to CANADA.

Hi, I have another question regarding I-94. My last I-94 is from H1B approval, the previous I-94 was from airport (and expired as well, issued : 2006).
Today, I got answer from my attorney office that I will need to surrender my previous I94 (from airport not from H1B approval).
I found this confusing, here are the questions :
1. what happened if I surrender airport I-94 ? will USCIS assume I am out ouf status for a couple of years ?
2. which one that I need to surrender ? is it from airport or H1B approval ?
Please advice ... I am really confuse with this immigration things ..

I and my husband both of us lost our passports too. We got it stamped again when we went to India. In between I transferred my h1s also with the copy of lost passport and duplicate passport issued by indian embassy ny office. It wasn't too difficult to get it stamped again from mumbai consulate india.
You might get it stamped from Canada or Mexico. We just didn't want to take risk because we had copy of lost and inside usa we could do all our work(including transferring h1s) with the copy.
Don't worry. It is not that big as it looks. Though indian embassy took 12 months to issue duplicate passport

Nope. My lawyer did a mistake to correct himself he applied though dates were not current.
What do you think now? any suggestion.

If the PD was not current at the time of the first submission they should not even cash the check with the fee.
